Géraldine Fiers is a PhD student at the Department of Geology at Ghent University. Her project, in collaboration with the Department of Archaeology, concerns flint characterization and its post-depositional alteration in a context of the preservation of prehistoric use-wear traces on stone tools. For her PhD dissertation, she is working under the supervision of Prof. Veerle Cnudde (Geology) and Prof. Philippe Crombé (Archaeology). Her expertise lies in using a wide variety of techniques for the petrographic, geochemical and structural investigation of flint. In 2019, Géraldine published an article with a preliminary characterization of flint raw material used on prehistoric sites in NW Belgium, in the journal Geoarchaeology.
